Getting Around

Once you have arrived at your destination, navigated your way through another airport and arrived at your accommodation,  you can start putting your holiday plans into place. This still has the odd surprise, even with research and prior planning.

Sometimes it's walking or having to find a taxi, and other times we've used local buses. Before my str, what we did on a holiday didn't matter;  we could choose something and just have fun. Now, I can go somewhere, choose what to do, and even, having looked at what it involves, find it's not possible for me to actually do when we get there. It can be an overload of walking with no other way to get to a place I'd planned to visit. On a trip to Dubrovnik, I wanted to walk along the walls of the old city. Unfortunately, there were too many steps, and it was too windy. So, even the weather can affect things!

I've slowly become more accepting about how I have to change the way I get somewhere. If a taxi means I can get to the place I want to visit without turning the journey there into the main event of the day, John and I get a taxi. I still like wandering around somewhere new. I just don’t assume that getting from one place to another is as easy as it used to be.
